An AED is a small , portable device that analyzes heart rhythms for any abnormalities and, if necessary , advises the trained help to provide an electrical shock to the heart of an SCA sufferer.  This shock , entitled defibrillation, can enable the heart to regain an effective beat.

An AED employs   voice prompts to instruct   the rescuer . Once the equipment is turned on , the trained help will be prompted to apply the 2 pads provided with the Automated External Defibrillator to the SCA vistim’s chest. As soon as they are applied , the AED will begin to monitor the victim’s heart rhythm.  If a “shockable” rhythm is discovered , the machine will charge itself and advise the trained help to stand clear of the SCA victim and to press the shock button.

An AED is hard wired to tell rescuers exactly what needs to be done, employing  voice and visual prompts . trained help attach   sticky electrode pads on the person’s chest. Through these electrodes, the Automated External Defibrillator is built to automatically determine the electrical activity of the heart to decide if a “shockable” rhythm exists.

Whether you undergo an Sudden Cardiac Arrest in your place of work   or in the Hospital Emergency Room , defibrillation is THE treatment .
