The Islands of Madeira are situated south west of Portugal in the Atlantic ocean. Due to the islands high mountains the climate in Madeira is very diverse. At sea level the weather can be warm and sunny on the same day that rain is falling higher up on the mountains. Madeira is famous for its diverse species and wild flowers that grow at different altitudes enjoying the differing climatic conditions offered.

Compared with the Portugal temperature on the mainland Madeira enjoys cooler summers and warmer winters. In March and April the springtime temperatures are between 13 and 20 degrees and by May the high temp is 21 degrees on Average. Rainfall levels are on average 48.7mms in January at Porto Santo and this falls to just 14mms by May.

In the summer time temperatures in Funchal range between 17 and 25 degrees celcius in June, July and August. The temperature in Funchal Madeira at Autumn time is still very mild with low temperatures falling from 19 to 16 degrees celcius. In August there is an average of 4mms of rainfall and this reaches 23.7mms by september peaking in the last month of the year at 69.9mms.
