If you want to get some exercise then walking is the simplest way. When you do something like go out for a jog then it isn’t just as simple as popping on your running shoes and nipping out, you need to make sure you running shoes are adequately cushioned to prevent damage to your joints and you need to make sure your clothes don’t rub as you move and they allow you to stay cool as you work out and start to sweat. If you go to the gym then again you are going to get sweaty, spend ages driving there and have to worry about what you are wearing again. You don’t have to worry about those things when you go for a walk, you can go out in whatever your normal clothes and shoes are, just pick up your keys and walk out of the front door and you are exercising! Walk 15 minutes in one direction then turn around and walk back to make sure you get a good amount of exercise, and if you want to track how far you are covering then buy an Omron HJ 112 pedometer which tracks your steps.

In fact you don’t even have to go out of your door to do some walking, you can do it in your house if you want. Treadmills aren’t just for people who like to jog, they work even better if you just use them for walking instead. That is a great way to exercise, particularly in the winter months when it is too cold and dark to go outside for a walk, plus you get to exercise while watching the TV, which is a huge bonus.

You will find that if you stick to it you start to get fitter and you no longer get out of breath on your walks, in which case you just need to quicken your pace, lengthen your walk or add in some hills to make things more difficult.
