A city gets completely devastated by a hurricane, but the hurricane is not able to crush the spirits of the people living in it and they built a new city for themselves.. This may seem like the makings of a great story – but is it true and happened in a small country in Central America. This is the truth behind the origin of the city of Belmopan, the capital city of the country of Belize.

The first capital city of Belize was called Belize City.  It was on the coast and was hit by virtually every major hurricane – and almost destroyed in the 1960s by storm named Hadey.  It was soon decided to build a new capital in the center of the country named Belmopan. The size of Belmopan has grown dramatically over the last several years – due to a increasing number of people that would like to visit or make this dynamic new capital there home. When visiting Belmopan there are many Belmopan hotels to stay at – or, if you like, a bed and breakfast or nearby resort.

There are many interesting things to see in the Belmopan area such as the Mopan river, the Blue Hole and ancient caves used by the Mayan and fortunately there are hotels in Belmopan located by these places.

If you are one of those who love adventure, you can find a host of Belmopan hotels located in the Jungle of Belize. So if you are a couple looking for a bit of romance or a group of students looking to study the rain forest there are hotels in Belmopan ready to meet your needs. Not everyone coming to Belmopan wants to spend a great deal on lodging - in that case you can stay at several low-budget accomidations that are available.

There are no 5 star hotels in the Belmpan area but there are still several places you can stay at with a high level of service. When traveling in the States that there things that you expect - wireless Internet, phone, TV, air conditioning, etc.  Most of the hotels offer many of the same services.  Those that do not usually provide a discounted price.

Since Belmopan is centrally located consider making a Belmopan hotel a “base of operations” that you can use to visit to rest of the country.
