Directional Drilling is a non invasive way to install conduits underground that later be used for phone, gas, Television, power or water. Originally directional drilling established by the oil industry in the United States, this method is now extensively used for just about all pressure pipes underneath major obstacles such as freeways, large rivers, air-port runways and so forth. A steerable drill bit of 90mm diameter is launched from the surface at 10′ -15′ and provides a pilot hole. This is followed by a 125mm washover pipe. After completion, the pilot string is actually taken out and a revolving barrel reamer moves back along the washover pipe. Subsequent reaming continues right until the actual necessary diameter is achieved. Drives of more than 1000 metres and up to one metre in diameter have also been carried out.
Directional Drilling is done with the assistance of a viscous liquid referred to as drilling fluid. It is a mixture of water and, typically, bentonite or polymer continually pumped to the cutting head or drill bit to be able to facilitate the removal of cuttings, stabilize the bore hole, cool the cutting head, and lubricate the passage of the product pipe. Directional drilling will involve the installation of a pilot rod directly into virgin ground, which is steered from above ground using a tracking device. Typically the head of the pilot rod is eccentrically loaded, so that rotational steering will be able to take place.
Southern Cross Directional Drilling have a new addition with our brand new 32000 pound Astec HDD that has a new F2 location system. Of course, trenchless pipe laying technologies provides several uses in addition to far reaching applications. It isnt basically huge pipelines which are carried out by Southern Cross Directional Drilling. Smaller sized (blank) environmental services are a couple of the companys extra services.
For any job big or small, Southern Cross Directional Drilling has the knowledge and experience to get the work accomplished quickly and within budget.
