Why canine lovers have this unfounded belief that small breed puppies are more difficult to educate rather than medium sized or larger dogs, I will in no way be able to figure out. Small dog training should not be problematic.

Small dog training, is not all different from training a dog of any other bigger sized breed. While training any pup could have its peculiarities, according to its breed, practically all other elements remain the same, and the strategy employed to train the puppy should stay the same, regardless its size.

Never the less, I will make an exception and allow myself to be corrected, in as much that small dog training may present difficulties in two aspects, (1) Aggression and (2) Puppy Crate Training. Even so, this is not because the size of the dog breed is small, but in all case studies, because of the owner.

If a small breed pup is aggressive and is hard to train, or if a tiny breed puppy cannot be potty trained or poses challenges in being crate trained, it is the owner who has unwittingly contributed to this state of affairs. Let us investigate how and why.

Aggression.

Smaller dogs are liked because they are pretty, they are like toy characters. Owners get pleasure from having their puppy sit on their laps. This specific indulgence is where the problem gets going. The natural aggressive character of the dog, is to assert ownership over its world, its food, even its trainer; all canines strive to be the alpha dog.

It is the aggressive streak in the pup that makes it to climb on to the lap of its master, above all when there are a good number of individuals present in the room.

This is a blatant act of ruthlessness. Instead of chiding the dog, every owner with the exception of no one, would cuddle the puppy, notwithstanding that it jumped on to their lap without being called, encouraging the aggressive streak in the dog. By doing this the owner has seconded the dog’s basic instinct to be the alpha dog.

Growling and snapping at a bigger dog is another blatant act of hostility. To the owner, and even the people who witness it, this is viewed as cute, mainly because one dog is small while the other is big. Most owners cuddle the pup instead of scolding it, when it displays this aggression towards a larger dog.

The above are but illustrations as to why small breed pups are aggressive, and definitely not because small dog training is complicated.

Toilet Training

Owners tend to tote their small pets around no matter where they go, even when they are in the house and that makes it practically impossible to potty train them

It comes natural to the owners of smallish breed dogs to tote the animal to the area where the dog should go to the toilet and then cart it back into the house.

It is this practice of carrying the dog to its toilet place that is the start of all dilemmas. In addition, ever since the pup is as a general rule carried around so often it has no way of it informing or notifying the owner that it has to poop.

There is no disputing the fact that small dog training starts off with treating the dog as any other normal dog. They have to be shown their pooping area on a leash. If owners stop carrying their tiny breed dogs they would have no troubles in training them.

Dog crate training, is the most interesting part of dog training, and so it has to be also in the instance of Small Dog Training.
