Computers known as netbooks, being as they are sort of new on the scene, currently have some other names put on them like mini laptop computers or simply ultraportables. With the name notebook computer being synonymous with laptop.

Netbook computers, are pigeon-holed as being within the subnotebooks classification, which is a very fast - changing type of diminutive, lightweight, lower price range laptop computers that is meant for basic computing and the use of web-based programs (they are enabled to connect to the world wide web wirelessly).

They are offered for sale more or less as supplementary devices that can augment one’s ordinary computing resources. Still further particularized references can include: small, light-weight, minimalist and cheap lap tops; along with more compact, lower-priced notebook computers.

Introduced in the lead up to the winter holiday shopping season of 2007 - as being smaller notebooks optimized for low weight as well as high value - netbooks did not include the cd/dvd disc drive, made the decision to go with smaller displays and in the same way keyboards, and reduced spec and computational very powerful.

Within the period since then, the netbook’s screen dimensions have varied from a bit less than 5 inches to a little bit over 10, with their weight in the one kilogram (2. 2 pounds) range.

By the middle of end of the decade netbooks had become significantly easier on the budget in comparison with traditional laptops, to the astonishing point of having even been provided as a no cost bonus in consideration of the purchase of an Internet service plan by AT&T in Atlanta, Georgia

During the brief time since their introduction, netbook computers have been increasing in size and features, while during that same span of time netbooks are being made less in weight and more and more small. In view of that, physical properties like their measurements and how little they weigh won’t be what can be said to make them different.

The way it stands now, perhaps a Net Book Computer is okay to be said to be a smallish, lower-powered notebook that lacks an optical drive(cd/dvd player/recorder). However that probably will not be for very long either, simply because optical disc drives are being designed ever smaller and will soon easily fit in a netbook computer. And computer connectivity is likely to improve to the point where external media like dvd’s and blu- ray disks can easily be done without.

So, for now, the netbook would likely best be labeled as a smaller, lower cost notebook computer lacking an optical disc drive.
